Meknes-Volubilis Day Trip From Fes

Our day trip to Meknes and Volubilis begins around 8 a.m., although we can adjust the timing to suit your preferences. A driver from Morocco Desert World will pick you up from your accommodation and drive you to Meknes, an imperial city about an hour away.

En route, you’ll pass through expansive vineyards renowned for producing high-quality wine, much of which is exported to France. You’ll have approximately three hours to explore Meknes, including its bustling souk and remarkable historical sites. During his reign from 1672 to 1727, Sultan Moulay Ismail designated Meknes as the capital of Morocco. Key attractions include his Mausoleum, the Rouah Stable, the Medina square, and Palace El-Hedim. Unlike the souk in Fes, Meknes’s souk offers a more tranquil shopping experience.

After lunch, we’ll drive to Moulay Idriss, known for its hillside setting and significance as a pilgrimage site for Muslims. The town’s picturesque narrow streets offer stunning views of the surrounding valleys and the nearby Roman site of Volubilis. We’ll continue to Volubilis for a brief visit, allowing you to capture some photos. This Roman site is the largest and most vibrant in the region, known for its mosaic floors and panoramic views of the Rif mountains. You can explore Volubilis on your own or with a guide. We’ll aim to depart for Fes around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m.
